Speeding Ticket Defense in New Jersey

The Penalties are high...When faced with Speeding or other Traffic charges, you need the most experienced Municipal Court Attorney you can find

Speeding Ticket Defense – N.J.S.A. 39:4-98

     Speeding in New Jersey is handled in the Municipal Court located in the Jurisdiction where the alleged Speeding violation occurred.

     Speeding tickets are one of the most common offenses people are assessed motor vehicle points for.  In New Jersey, the amount of points assessed depends on how far over the speed limit you were driving:

     Under N.J.S.A. 39:4-98, you will be assessed;

     2 Motor Vehicle Points for Speeding 1-14 mph over the limit

     4 Motor Vehicle Points for Speeding 15-29 mph over the limit

     5 Motor Vehicle Points for Speeding 30 or more mph over the limit

     A conviction for a speeding ticket has many potential consequences.  Points assessed against your license can dramatically increase your insurance premium.  Also if you accumulate too many points in a short period of time your driving privileges may be revoked.  This is particularly important, as New Jersey has no ‘work license’.  To find out how many points are currently assessed against you, you may

     Beyond the points assessed against you for your Speeding ticket, it is rare to be given only one citation after being pulled over for Speeding.  These other offenses often include Reckless Driving, Careless Driving, Failure to Exhibit Documents, and dozens of other moving violations.  These have their own fines and Motor Vehicle Assessment points which may raise your insurance premiums.

      As if the points were not enough, many New Jersey traffic court Judges will suspend your New Jersey Driver’s License for 30 to 60 days depending on how many miles over the speed limit you were traveling.

     A final consideration in fighting your ticket is that having a Speeding violation, Careless Driving, Reckless Driving, etc on your record is the risk that officers are more apt to pull you over and cite you in the future.

      If you wish to fight your Speeding or other moving traffic tickets, it is important to have someone who knows the Laws and the Courts of New Jersey, and who can give you the best defense and outcome possible.  Take the first step to fighting your ticket,
